UV LINING
What Is UV Lining?
UV lining (also called UV-cured lining or UV-curing CIPP) is a cutting-edge trenchless rehabilitation method in which a resin-saturated liner is cured using ultraviolet light. The UV exposure rapidly polymerises the resin, hardening it to form a durable internal pipe coating.

It combines the benefits of CIPP (trenchless renewal) with the speed and reduced chemical emissions of UV curing, making it especially useful in constrained or sensitive environments.

Process Overview

1. Inspection & Cleaning - As with other methods, we begin with CCTV surveying and a full clean using high-pressure jetting and mechanical tools.

2. Liner Placement & Inflation - The resin-impregnated liner is inserted via pull-in, then inflated to press firmly against the host pipe walls.

3. UV Curing - A UV light train or panel is passed through the lining, rapidly curing the resin from within. This process can often be completed in minutes (rather than hours).

4. Quality Control & Final Inspection - We monitor curing parameters (light intensity, dwell time, temperature) and perform final CCTV inspections to confirm the lining’s integrity and continuity.

Advantages of UV Lining

-
Fast Curing Time - UV curing is typically much faster than thermal or steam methods, reducing downtime.
-
Low Emissions & Odour - Since curing does not rely heavily on heat or styrene-based chemical reactions, UV methods tend to generate fewer emissions and less odour.
-
Precision & Control - UV curing can be more controllable and uniform, improving consistency and reducing cure-related risks.
-
Minimal Surface Impact - As with all trenchless, there’s no need to dig trenches - only existing access points are needed.
-
Durability & Performance - UV-cured liners are seamless, corrosion-resistant, and provide strong hydraulic performance.

Ideal Use Cases & Considerations

UV lining is especially well-suited where:

-
Rapid turnaround is critical (e.g. to limit service interruption)
-
Close proximity to buildings or sensitive infrastructure demands minimal emissions
-
Long continuous runs are needed
-
The host pipe is accessible and clean enough for efficient curing
However, UV lining may not be viable if the host pipe has severe obstructions, high bends, or where the resin system or liner geometry cannot satisfactorily cure via UV alone.
